Grace Elizabeth Slocum was born 5 Jan 1855 in Ontario, Canada.  Grace was the daughter of Willard Woodman Slocum and Sarah Eliza McNutt.

In the 1861 Census of Canada, Grace is living with her parents in Saugeen, Bruce, Canada.

In the 1870 US census, Grace is living with her parents in Marquette, Michigan, USA.

Grace married John Thomas Lloyd 10 Nov 1870 in Marquette, Michigan, USA.

In the 1881 Canadian census Grace was living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

There is a John T Lloyd, carpenter, in the Grand Forks, North Dakota city directory in 1889 living at 512 International Ave.   At the same address is William W. Lloyd, his son. The names of married women were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address.

By 23 Sep 1890 when their daughter Grace Elizabeth is born the family is in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Sadly, there is no 1890 US census.

In the 1891 city directory for Grand Forks, North Dakota there is John T, carpenter, at 512 International Ave. Married womens names were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address

In the 1893 city directory for Grand Forks, North Dakota, there is John T at 900 International Ave, as well as Miss Lovina, and Wm W at the same address. Married womens names were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address

In 1895 John T, carpenter, is listed at 517 N 4th, also at the address is Wm W Lloyd and Miss Lovina Lloyd. Married womens names were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address

In 1896 John T Lloyd, carpenter, is listed at 1124 Cheyenne Ave in the Grand Forks, North Dakota directory.  Also at that address is Miss Agnes Lloyd and William W Lloyd. Married womens names were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address

In the 1898 city directory for Grand Forks, North Dakota is John T Lloyd, carpenter, at 1124 Cheyenne Ave.  Also at that address is John D Lloyd. Married womens names were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address

In the 1900 census Grace was living in Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA. Grace was listed as having given birth to 16 children, 9 still living.  I have accounted for 10 children, 1 of whom died prior to 1900.  There are likely 6 other children who died young.  They apparently owned their home and had a mortgage.

The 1903 Grand Forks, North Dakota city directory in 1903 lists John T. Lloyd, carpenter, living at 1124 Cheyenne Ave, also at the same address is Miss Lavina Lloyd, Harvey M Lloyd, and James F Lloyd.  Married womens names were not listed, but Grace was likely living with her husband at the same address

In the 1905 Grand Forks, North Dakota city directory for 1905 it lists John T Lloyd, carpenter, living at 1124 Cheyenne Ave.  Also at the same address is Frederick F Lloyd, carpenter.

In a 1907 city directory for Grand Forks, Grace, widow of John T, is listed.

In a 1909 city directory for Grand Forks, Grace, widow of John T, is listed.

When her son Walter Percy Lloyd enlisted in the C. E. F for WWI on Jun 1, 1918 he listed Grace as his next of kin, and gave her address as Carmichael, Saskatchewan, Canada.

On 5 Mar 1922 Grace crossed the border from Canada.  At that time she listed that her last permanent residence was in Carmichael, Saskatchewan, Canada.  Her nearest relative in Canada was her son Walter Percy Lloyd in Carmichael, Saskatchewan.  She indicated she had been in the US before from 1880-1906 to Apr 1921 in various states.  Her destination was her daughter, Mrs. Tony Bloss in Portland, Oregon.  Her complexion was medium, her hair gray, and eyes brown.  Her place of birth was listed as Port Samey, Ontario.

In a 1925 city directory for Oakland, Alameda, Berkeley, California, Grace is listed.

In the 1930 census, Grace is living in Los Angeles, California with her daughter Grace Hands and family.

In the 1940 census, Grace is living in Pasadena, Los Angeles, California with her daughter Mary A Bloss and her family.

Grace died 28 Jul 1944 in Los Angeles, California, USA.  Her death is recorded in the California Death Index 1940-1997 accessed at Ancestry.com.
