Geni adds DNA features!

Exciting news! Geni has added the ability to upload your DNA to Geni profiles. I am super excited about this new feature.

Three types of DNA results can be added to Geni profiles, autosomal, Y-DNA and mtDNA.  Y-DNA and mtDNA will be propagated to appropriate related profiles.

This feature will mean big things for genetic genealogists.  Within a few weeks, I expect a large portion of the Geni profiles will have DNA data associated with it. This will be more informative than the existing matches provided by FTDNA and 23andMe, and AncestryDNA because every match will have a tree*, and it will be the same tree. You can immediately request to see a relationship path to that person.

I would strongly recommend adding your Gedmatch #s to profiles on Geni, to make it easier for matches to do some research into the connection.

Within hours of this feature going live I received a message from a match to my sister, and an email about some other profiles I manage that now have Y-DNA data.  Upload your DNA today and let me know how many matches you found!

You can read the official Geni announcement here

* It is possible that some matches will be on Geni as a single profile, not yet attached to any tree, but this is not likely very many profiles.
